The 100 capacity hideaway is perfect for birthday's, engagements, office parties, work nights out or for just general gatherings.

Hire includes sound system, DJ turntables & mixer and you can provide your own DJ our main room music can be played over the system.

We bill our night as a 'chronological history of soul' with our dj collective taking you on a journey through four decades of the very best soul, funk, disco and hip-hop with a touch of smooth r and b and some big house classics.

Our back room is available for free hire on any Friday night!

With a capacity of 100 max its the perfect place to have a birthday, engagement, office party or any kind of celebration.

The room has its own soundsystem plus lighting and we are happy for you to provide your own DJ, I-pod or laptop to play music or if you prefer you can have the music from our main room Friday night "Top Of The Pops" play over the system.

Say "Hello" to 2013 with Funkademia

2012 has been another very successful & entertaining year for Funkademia. Now firmly established in the heart of the Northern Quarter and having recently celebrated 17 years under a groove we are Manchester’s longest ever running weekly club night.

Saturday nights at the Mint Lounge have been fantastic throughout 2012 so hence we thought it only right to celebrate the dawn of a new year at our disco-home, the Mint Lounge nightclub.

Dj’s: Our resident dj crew will be manning the decks in the main room with the very enigmatic prince of funk Trafford Lovething leading the proceedings in the main room with the Good for the Soul boys in support. In the Babyfunk backroom we will be putting on our sister night Northern Funk with DJ Myk Nolan taking charge in a discerningly soulful manner.

Times: In order to provide our people with a full night we are opening the doors an hour early at 10pm with the funk going through until at least 4am 2013. If the people want it we’re happy to keep the wheels of steel spinning & in years gone by we have been known to have the place still rockin’ at 7.00am.

£: As usual we like to keep things very reasonable. This year our early bird tickets will be just £5 which we think is exceptional value for NYE Eve. Once these are gone its £10 & £15 on the night. However it is worth pointing out in 17 years of doing NYE events we’ve always sold out in advance.

Request Line: To personalise things for our people we’re doing our popular Request Line slot again. Ticket holders can e-mail in their top 3 Funkademia tunes & we’ll give them a spin in Request Line hour between 2-3.

Reservations: We know NYE can be a bit of a palaver to organise so if people are looking to make a group booking and want us to hold some tickets back for they get their mates organised e-mail us & we’ll sort it.

Sold Out. Every single NYE event we have done since our first back in 1996 has always sold out well in advance and given that we already sell out (literally not metaphorically) every Saturday we expect this year to be no different. Hence we really would advise people to get tickets in advance and asap.

Melba Moore Comes To Mint Lounge!

US soul singer and actress MELBA MOORE makes her first ever Manchester appearance.

During a long and extremely successful recording career that stretches back to 1970, the New York-born chanteuse has racked up 32 chart entries on Billboard's R&B charts, including two chart toppers in the shape of 'A Little Bit More' (a duet with then label mate, Freddie Jackson) and 'Falling,' both for Capitol Records in 1986.

She also had five UK chart hits; the biggest was 1976's 'This Is It' for Buddah while in the '80s 'Love's Comin' At Ya' made the Top 20 and 'Mind Up Tonight' dented the Top 30. Her music has also been nominated for four Grammy Awards.

For her Manchester debut she will be ably assisted by the DJ skills of Mike Shaft & Peace FM's DJ Devo

The guys from Itchy Feet are returning with an almighty bang on Monday 19th March with very special guests The Correspondents.

They consist of Mr Bruce and Chucks, who collaborate to revamp vintage sounds for the modern ear.

Resuscitating sampled relics with squelchy synths over dusty drum loops they've depicted the trials and errors of Love, Lust and Loss over a foot-tapping toe curling amalgamation of Electro, Drum ‘n’ Bass, Swing and Boogie Woogie.

Pop Til You Drop launches itself into 2012 with a trip across Manchester to its new weekly Friday residency at The Mint Lounge, right in the heart of the Northern Quarter.

A year into its existence, PTYD DJ’s continue to provide a plethora of music spanning decades of quality pop from hip hop to indie, disco to rock, r n b to acid house, steering well clear of the cheesier side of the charts.

Digging deep into their libraries, resident DJ’s from the camps of Crazy P and El Diablo’s Social Club (the original founders of the night), alongside other local heroes and don’t knows, hope to take you down a musical memory lane and have you firmly routed to the dancefloor!

There'll be a jukebox request and dedication hour, "projected reflections corner" of TOTP hits gone by and live performances of pop classics from stars of the future plus irregular themed nights!

Keeping us fuelled throughout the night Mint Lounge’s extensive drinks menu, with specialist cocktail bar, international beers, drinks offers and of course corporation pop, there'll be no need to go thirsty!

Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer at Itchy Feet Valentines Party!

Itchy Feet's Valentines Party will be welcoming a very special guest in the form of Mr B!

On a one-man mission to introduce Hip-Hop to the Queen's English, Mr. B is delighted to present Chap-Hop.

Having spent the best part of a decade bringing some manners back to popular culture, this dopest of fellows will entertain and amuse you with his ingenious stylings.

Aiming to dazzle with dignity, Mr. B takes to the stage with his Banjolele and stiff upper lip to perform ditties of pipe-smoking, high society, Cricket and sexual misadventure, as well as some more well-known pieces from the world of Hip-Hop, re-worked in true Chap-Hop fashion.

Mr.B has fast gained a reputation as an eloquent and entertaining live performer, playing recitals across the UK and into Johnny Continent for the past two years from the Glastonbury Festival to club NME in Paris, from the club in Surrey to the Edinburgh fringe.

His recent video 'Chap-Hop history' received over 100,000 hits in its first week on youtube. He has just guested on banjolele and vocals on US nerdcore rapper MC Frontalot's album 'Zero Day'.

His debut long player 'Flattery Not Included' is available via www.gentlemanrhymer.com now and his second, 'I Say!' will be available in December, once launched at the Chap magazine's second Grand Anarcho Dandyist Ball.

This year Funkademia are spending NYE 2011 into 2012 at their Manchester home, Mint Lounge, right in the heart of Manchester’s Northern Quarter on Oldham Street.

Funkademia - 16 Years Under A Groove

With Graeme Hawley & Disco Mums

On the 12th November Funkademia will celebrate its 16th birthday with a party at Mint Lounge, Manchester featuring Graeme Hawley & Disco Mums on the decks.

They're not normally renowned for getting on guest dj’s at Funkademia but they thought they’d push the boat out to celebrate becoming the longest running weekly night in Mancunian clubland this year.

Graeme Hawley is best known for playing John Stape in Coronation Street, but what a lot of people don’t know is that he also a fantastic DJ. He’s played for Funkademia over the summer at Wickerman Festival, Ramsbottom Festival and also took control of our Baby Funk room.

His love of all things funky is sure to light up this birthday party! Supporting him in the main room will be one of our favourite resident DJ’s, Les Croasdaile.

In the Baby Funk room we welcome Disco Mums who make their Funkademia debut. They are an all female Manchester based DJ collective who play a vinyl only set of sly gems, treasured classics and bombs from the disco.

As a special treat the first 100 ticket buyers will receive a limited edition CD of our resident DJ’s favourite tracks. The other 500 or so will get a limited edition button badge.

Funkademia have come a long way from the very first night back in the 1995 at the Boardwalk and with the continued support of 18,000 members they intend to keep on keeping on for a while longer yet.
